On Thursday, January 21st "Two Men and a Truck" times 2 moved us in. On Friday, two dogs and a woman finished the move with many carloads full of artwork. Charles spent Friday managing the various personalities trying to complete our house. Anyone remember Murphy Brown's painter? Its been 5 days now and he is still painting. After one trip down the driveway we knew either the driveway had to change or we both needed to trade in our cars for pick-ups. We've now had a driveway modification and will find out tomorrow if it was successful. Every day another small detail is completed and we unpack another box and appreciate our new home a little more. Before the move we followed the inspiration of our friend Roselind Hejl and purchased some great limestone stepping stones quarried in Austin. I don't know how we could have functioned without them since our front yard is mostly mud right now. The yard, though planted with cereal rye, is only just beginning to show signs of life -- but that's another story, (The Native Septic Experiment--coming soon).
I have posted a few pictures below but you will see the rest in a month or two when we invite you over for a real view and celebration.
Our home building has limped along through the holidays. It is fortunate that some events in our lives are totally unaffected by back orders, failed inspections, or worker no-shows. In stead of a finished home, I can report that we had an especially merry Christmas with family this year; Avery, our builder's baby was born on Christmas Eve five weeks early but in perfect health; and we celebrated a very happy 13th. wedding anniversary on January 1st. toasting in the new year with friends.
Now that the holidays are behind us the momentum has picked up. The septic system is installed and is waiting for landscaping. The power was turned on -- a big milestone. We've got heat and hot water now and the cabinets are finally complete. Our mailbox was delivered yesterday and today in 30 degree weather a guy with a jack hammer was installing the posts for our fence. You'll see from the pictures below that we are still missing some key details before move in day.
